August, 20 : Commissioned at Puget Sound Navy Yard, Emerorton, WA. Capt. Austin K. Doyle, USN, of Pensacola, FL., Commanding

September, 19-October 6 : Conducted trial runs and fittings out activities in Seattle area. Loaded 9 F4F's of VGS 16.

October7, : Underway From Port Angeles, WA., for Alameda, Ca..

October 14, : Underway for Pearl Harbor, T.H. Operating under ComAirPac.

October 21, : Moved to Navy Yard, Pearl Harbor.

October 21, - 23, : Underwent repairs and installations.

October 23, : Moved to Naval Air Station, Pearl Harbor. Embarked passengers. Loaded aircraft, including 12 TBS's 20 SBD's and 4 P-40's for ferrying.

October 25, :   Shifted berths to mooring alongside, MEDUSA, for additional repairs and installations.

October 30, :  Underway for Palymyra Island.

November 8, :   Arrived at Noumea, New Caledonia. Anchored in Great Roads.

November 9, :   Launched 6 F4F's. Underway for Espiritu Santos, New Herbides ferrying aircraft and passengers, operating under ComSoPac.

November 11, :   Launched 20 SBD's. 12 TBF's, and 5 P-40's. Arrived at Espiritu Santo. Anchored in Segond Channel. VF 72 and VT 6 embarked for operations.

November 19, :  Underway for Noumea, New Caledonia, conducting flight operations.

 

November 23, :   Arrived at Noumea. Anchored at Great Roads.

December 20, :   Anchored at Noumea. Conducted flight operations intermittently, cruising in vicinity of Noumea

December 23, :   Vice Admiral F. Halsey, Commander South Pacific Force, came aboard to award stations to members of Air Group.

December 30, :  Arrived at Espiritu Santo. Anchored in Segond Channel.
