lrvin G. Isner

I was born on April 27, 1922 in Elkins, West Virginia. I graduated from Elkins High School in the Class of 1939. I worked for Mason Lumber Company from May 1940 to November 1942. I married Guinevere D. Kelly on September 23, 1942 at Oakland, Maryland. I enlisted in the U.S. Navy on November II, 1942 at Charleston, West Virginia. I underwent training at USNTS, Great Lakes, Illinois; 16 weeks of Radio/School at NTSCH at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wisconsin; and Radio School in San Francisco, California. I boarded the U.S.S. Nassau on June 3, 1943. I held the ratings of AS, S2C, SIC, RM3C, RM2C (T), and RMIC (T).

My memorable events are the 1st Invasion of the Gilbert Islands and the 2nd Invasion of the Marshall Islands. Memorable times were in the Radio Room keeping communications going.

After 27 months aboard the U.S.S. Nassau, I departed on December 12, 1945, and was Discharged on September 28th at Bainbridge, Maryland.

Our daughter was born in 1946 and our son in 1950. We have four grand children and one great-grandson.

Presently, I am retired after 48 years at Elkins Monumental Works. From May of 1967 to March of 1993, I was co-owner of Elkins Monumental Works.
