Reunion 1994
The Eighth U.S.S. Nassau (CVE-16) Reunion was held in San Diego, California on September 21st to September 24th, 1994 at the Doubletree Hotel, with 97 in attendance.
We took the San Diego and Tijuana Tour on September 22nd. We went to the San Diego Wild Animal Park on September 23rd, and had a Dinner Cruise in the evening. We toured The North Island Naval Air Station on September 24th.
We had a Color Guard and a Navy band from the San Diego Naval Training Center. Our speaker was Lee Silber who gave us the many pictures taken onboard during wartime. On the first page was a picture, taken by a Japanese, overlooking Ford Island on Sunday, December?, 1941.
One item in the program for the banquet on Saturday night was entitled, "Lest We Forget."
* The Day of infamy, Sunday, December 7, 1941.
* 1102 American Sailors Entombed in the U.S.S. Arizona at Pearl harbor, Hawaii.
* 10,000 American and Filipino Soldiers Murdered on the Bataan Death March which began on April 9, 1942 by the Japanese.
* Four Captured American Pilots of the Doolittle Raid on Tokyo were publicly executed in early 1943.
